There has been an increase in mosquito born West Nile virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) (updated Sept. 23, 2019) in several Connecticut regions. New Haven has demonstrated WNV-positive mosquito activity as well as the adjacent towns/cities of West Haven, East Haven, and North Haven. EEE is most closely present in Shelton and Madison at this time and with recent and continued warm weather and humidity, the spread of infected mosquitoes is likely and opportunities of exposure increased.
The risk for exposure is highest during the hours of dusk and dawn until the weather pattern changes and there is frost.
Below is information about how to reduce your risk of exposure to mosquito viruses.
