• School Safety Plan

Safety is of the utmost importance. A large number of strategies are in place, including, but not limited to: metal detectors, locked entrances, guest registration, staff ID cards, security cameras, school resource officers, administrative and staff presence, and established school-community partnerships. A comprehensive lock-down plan and monthly fire drills are utilized at the school.

    Medical Emergencies

Our school health clinic is staffed full-time. In the event of a medical emergency, the student will be assessed by the School Nurse or the Nurse Practitioner in the Body Shop. If the student requires treatment beyond first aid, or if it is determined that he/she should go home, the parents or another designated adult will be notified.

An emergency card included with the registration/orientation information must be filled out and on file in the Main Office. The card should have at least two daytime contact phone numbers (preferably cell phone #s). This parent responsibility is of the utmost importance. Emergency phone numbers must be supplied.

The school nurse keeps records of student health irregularities.

    Lockdown Procedures

State law requires that a drill be held periodically during the school year. Lockdown drills are scheduled. Students must follow all instructions issued during the drills.

When a full lockdown is announced all areas of the school are locked and there is no movement allowed. When a partial lockdown is announced, the school is locked, and movement inside is restricted, but instruction may continue. All doors (internal and external) will be locked and no one will be permitted to enter or leave the building.

At the conclusion of the lockdown, students who failed to follow instructions will be referred to their Administrator or the Student Retention Specialist for disciplinary action.

    Fire Drill & Evacuation Procedures

State law requires that a Fire/Emergency Evacuation Drill be held on a monthly basis. The signal for a fire drill or actual fire alarm is the continuous sounding of the building fire alarm. Flashing strobe lights will also activate to assist those who are hearing impaired.

Faculty/Staff members are to assist in evacuating students from the building in an orderly, quiet and prompt manner. Students should remain with their teacher/staff member during the evacuation.

Once out of the building, students and staff should move away from the building to the areas designated on the evacuation plan. When out of the building, attendance will be taken. If a student is not present when attendance is taken, an administrator or security officer should be notified immediately. At the conclusion of the drill or incident, an administrator or security officer will call everyone back into the building.
