• Wilbur Cross School Based Health Clinic (SBHC): "The Body Shop"

Wilbur Cross housed the first School Based Health Clinic (SBHC) in Connecticut in the 1980's and continues to house the SBHC, known at Cross as "The Body Shop." A SBHC is a medical clinic located within a school and it is licensed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) as an outpatient clinic. It is also licensed by the Department of Children and Families, Department of Public Health or both to provide mental/behavioral health service. The services a SBHC provides is available to all students, regardless of income or health care coverage, who are enrolled in the school in which the SBHC is located. Parent/guardian permission is required to access clinical services.

The Body Shop, the SBHC at Wilbur Cross, helps to provide comprehensive care where kids are located-in school. It is open to all enrolled in the school regardless of ability to pay (no insurance is needed). The Body Shop work collaboratively with school, parents and the community and ensure that students are healthy and ready to learn.

At Cross, The Body Shop is sponsored by the Fair Haven Health Clinic. There is an APRN and a Mental Health Counselor at the clinic to provide a wide range of services. Some services include:

    • Diagnosis and treatment of acute injuries and illnesses
    • Managing/monitoring chronic disease
